Your Electricity Invoice Explained

There's a lot we have to include in our energy invoice, and we understand it can get confusing. To help, we're here to explain what you see on your invoice. Let's start off with the Invoice Summary on the first page. This shows the amount you owe and the due date. If you see CR next to the Amount Due balance it means that there is a credit balance and no payment is required. If you have a Direct Debit set up, you will automatically pay the amount owing from your nominated account on the due date. Your Account shows how your Invoice Summary was calculated. The Previous Balance and Payments Received display the total of your last invoice, and the payments we received for it. Anything outstanding is shown in the Opening balance, and New Charges whcih reflect the cost of this billing period. Energy Charges is a simple summary of your New Charges. Here you will see any credits, concessions and additional charges that are applied for this billing period. All the electricity charges on your invoice include GST, but we also display GST as a separate line item. To make it easy for you to pay, we include our payment options at the bottom of the first page. At the top of Page Two is where you can find the Supply Address this invoice is for, and the National Meter Identifier, also known as your NMI, and the period this invoice covers. If you have a basic meter at your property, the next read date is when the network will next read your meter. You can expect your invoice to be issued around three business days after this meter is read. The Meter Reads area has information on your total usage. If you have a smart meter your opening read will always be zero, and there's nothing to worry about. If your start or end read is marked actual, the reads show accurate consumption. An Estimate read will only be issued if we're having trouble getting actual reads for your meter, often because your meter was not able to be accessed, maybe due to a locked gate or a big scary dog. The estimate read will be based on previous consumption, and will be corrected up or down once we have the actual data. Substitute reads happen when there's missing data, sometimes it's only a 30 minute interval that may be caused by a disruption to your meter communications. Under Usage Charges is where you'll see your rates, consumption, and energy costs for the period. The Daily Supply Charge is the cost of supplying your power and is multiplied by the number of days in the billing period. Your other charges, such as Anytime, Peak, Off-peak and Demand are calculated based on your quantity of usage. The quantity is how many kilowatt hours are used, and this is multiplied by the rate to determine the cost. If you have solar at your property, we pay you for any solar that is exported back into the grid via a solar feed in tariff. This appears as a deduction from the overall cost. Membership is the only cost we charge to run Energy Locals. All retailers have a Membership Fee, but they build them into their usage rates. We like to keep this separate, so what we earn is visible for you. This also means that we don't profit from what you use, so our interests are aligned with yours. We also have some nifty charts to help you understand your usage. The Usage Summary Chart shows your usage based on previous invoices and gives your average usage data below. The Compare Usage Chart provides an average daily consumption amount based on the number of people in the household. Your average daily usage is below so you can compare your household. The Greenhouse Gas Emission chart displays the total amount of greenhouse gases produced on a month to month basis based on the meter at your household. This is our favourite chart as we carbon offset all of your usage. So your carbon footprint is zero from your power. For other services that we offer such as moving properties and payment difficulty, Please see the bottom section of your invoice for more information.
