Speaker: Angie Yau , Dental Associate, Affinity Dental
Where did you attend dental school and when did you graduate?
Angie Yau : Hi I'm Dr. Angie Yau and I graduated from Tufts University of Dental Medicine in 2019.
With so many dental career opportunities in the Northeast, what made you choose Affinity?
Angie Yau : With so many dental opportunities in the Northeast, I chose Affinity Dental because I was impressed with meeting the team there was great energy I felt in my gut that this is the right place for me. I moved from Boston to Vermont and it has been almost three years now. I was also impressed with the interview with Dr. Craig Saltzsman I think because even though he's the CEO I felt that as a clinician and he's an Endodontist and clinician himself, he understands and he listens to what our needs are and he supports us with a great team. There is continuing education opportunities and as well as specialists that I can reach out to when I have questions and this is very important to me. When I was first looking for a job that provides a help happy and healthy environment where I can go to work and just be relaxed and also be productive as well.
What is one thing you know now that you wish you knew back when you were looking for the right position?
Angie Yau : So one thing that I now know that I wish I knew when I was looking for the right position is that it's important that you and your team are the right fit for each other. So having the right positive energy, you know, the right mentality, just knowing that you are all trying to provide the best care for your patient. It really makes a big difference because who you hang out with every day is going to become you. and it will be a part of your personality, so just going to work and knowing that these are the people that you can trust, you can lean on creates a positive, healthy environment and that's really important because you spend more than half a week with your work family.
How has Affinity helped you to achieve your goals as a dentist?
Angie Yau : So how has Affinity helped achieve my goals? I had mainly clinical goals They say that how you practice the next five years from graduation is going to dictate how you most likely practice for the rest of your career. So it's important to me that the next five years I am improving in my clinical skills and be able to say that I am proud of my clinical work and I would say that yes, I've improved a lot and with the CE courses that I could take, talking to specialists, being able to shadow one of the doctors, Dr Ramirez, she's a periodontist, just having that support is important in improving my clinical skills. Another one that I could think of is time management, I think I've definitely gotten a lot better.
