Speaker: Rebecca Oatham, Financial Controller, Your Right Hand
What did you enjoy most about last year's annual conference?
Rebecca Oatham: After a very long time of lockdown, even though we were still virtual on last year's conference, it was just so good to actually see everybody, Um, in that context of having colleagues with Your Right Hand. It does feel like colleagues, um, and just to see their faces on the screen. And whilst the conference does touch on subjects, it's also fun, and it's exciting to see everybody.
What do you think the benefits are of the YRH annual conference?
Rebecca Oatham: I think, the benefits of the YRH annual conference are that you get to spend time with colleagues talking about your experience of working with clients and also troubleshooting and sharing any issues you might have. Also, some of the conference sessions are really, really useful and can just be exactly what you need in order to maybe move a client issue forward or help you with resolving things. So I think that's really good. Um, sharing ideas is fabulous as well.
What are you most looking forward to about this year's in-person conference?
Rebecca Oatham: What I'm most looking forward to about this year's in person conference is actually seeing people in person and giving them a hug and saying hello in person rather than virtually. It's been a long, a long two and a half years. So for me, that's the that's the takeaway. Is just celebrating the fact that we've all come through this and that YRH is growing and that we all work as a team and my experience is it's great. So sharing that with other people at the conference is what I'm most looking forward to.
How useful have you found the speaker sessions at past conferences?
Rebecca Oatham: I found the speaker sessions at the past conferences absolutely invaluable. Um, not just technically, some of them might be technical in terms of things like R&D tax credits or a new software development. But there's also the other side of the speaker sessions, which are about not just about us as accountants, but about us as people. And I've really found those ones, I think it's Brad Waldron, Just you can take that away and you can apply it to all your relationships, and it's for me, I just found that so lovely that we don't just sit there and have one after the other a technical speaker session. It's really interesting, and it's fun.
What would you say to anyone undecided about whether to attend the conference?
Rebecca Oatham: I would say, if you're undecided about whether to attend the conference or not, you should just give it a try. Just come once and you will come again and again because what's really important is to get involved with the people that are part of YRH. It's all very well working as a part of YRH, but you're on your own. You're working alone, so it's really good to come to the conference. And also, it's all part of that continuous learning. Networking is learning. You just don't know what you might pick up. And as I said, the sessions are really good and it's an enjoyable day.
