Speakers: Ellen Allen, Executive Director - WVAHC

Ellen Allen: I signed up for the ACA about 2 years ago because I changed jobs and came to a smaller organization that couldn't provide a health insurance plan.

Ellen Allen: I currently receive $1,400 per month in a tax credit to help me pay for my health insurance.

Ellen Allen: but that tax credit does not come to me. It goes directly to the insurance provider to help offset my healthcare premium costs.

Ellen Allen: You know, actually, it's the enhanced Premium Tax Credits that make the Affordable Care Act truly "affordable."

Ellen Allen: mind. Now, the tax credits are set to expire at the end of the year. So, I have calculated, I have to set aside between $35,000 and $40,000 next year just to cover my healthcare costs. And you know what? I am one of the lucky ones. There are over 51,000 West Virginians who may not be able to do so.

Failing to renew the ePTC will make health care more expensive for West Virginians in 2026
