Speaker: Fred Herr, Chairperson of our Covenant Ministry Council

Fred Herr: I'm Fred, her member of Johnson Memorial United Methodist Church in Huntington. And I am the chairperson for our Covenant Ministry Council.

Fred Herr: The on boarding process was something new to us. We had not even heard of it, but once we met with the coach, went through the questions that were asked of us and then our new pastor that was sued be with us had a chance to do the same thing. When we came together, we found out about each other, what our expectations of the church would be of our new pastor as well as what her expectations might be. We think this process really helped us to come together and work as a team.

What would you share with pastors and congregations who will be part of the On-Boarding process in the future?

Fred Herr: We believe that the onboarding process really does help the new pastor get to know your church. So when you're answering the questions that the coach will give you be open, be candid, be willing to share your strengths and weaknesses. So that when the pastor begins her new appointment in July, they'll be months ahead of getting to know your church because in the past a new pastor would come in would really probably not know anyone or not even know much about the church. I believe the process really does help in that respect. You would be farther ahead as far as for a new pastor. The same thing be open about yourself, your strengths, your weaknesses. But at the same time, we need to get to know the church in the church to know you what you like, how you like things, be, um, be honest and be willing to listen to each other as they through the process. And in the months to come afterwards, be able to work as a team.
