Speaker: Nicholas Reissfelder

Introduce yourself and tell us about your co-op this semester.

Nicholas Reissfelder: Hey, everybody. My name's Nick Reissfelder. I'm currently a sophomore at Wentworth in my summer co-op right now. Currently, I'm an architectural design intern at Oak Point Associates in Southern Maine. Um At Oak Point, we fully design and engineer commercial buildings, institutional and civic, some governmental and a little bit of residential buildings as well.

While on co-op, what is a project that you've been a part of that has inspired you?

Nicholas Reissfelder: Since being at Oak Point, I've worked a lot on new construction and following those all the way out to um fully built projects, as well as smaller renovations all throughout New England. Um But the project that's really kind of stuck with me was a big campus urban plan that we did for a couple of school systems in Southern Maine and just kind of experiencing the functionality of the spaces throughout the conceptual stage. Although I followed through to the actual construction phases has really kind of impacted me to, to think more closely about intimate spaces throughout design and how those spaces actually come to life.

What have you learned that you will use in your career?

Nicholas Reissfelder: One of the many things I've learned while being at Oak Point, uh and while being on co-op is how to approach the professional side of things, whether it's how to approach in kind of professional client meetings, um or in house stuff as well as um how to be professional in those situations as well. And seeing how that professionalism carries through to conversations you have with principals and builders and subcontractors and clients. Um as well as how that professionalism kind of reflects and reacts to a design.
