International Women's Day 2024

Virtusa Leadership speaks on #InspireInclusion

Your role as a male leader in fostering an inclusive environment for women within our organization

Sumit Kaushik: To foster effective inclusion for women in the organization I see myself performing every day to drive inclusion This is not a one time activity It's a continuous learning driven pursuit to drive change. The key areas that I focus on are, driving myself and our team towards an inclusive behavior of listening to diverse perspectives, respecting differences and advocating gender diversity. We work every day to create a culture that values work life balance, prioritizes mental health and encourages open communication while also creating equal opportunities for women.

Initiatives you believe are essential for promoting gender equality & inclusion in the workplace

Sumit Kaushik: Initiatives that foster continuous learning that involves training our employees on gender bias microaggressions are very important. Investing in women's professional development through training, skill building and leadership development programs are equally important. Celebrating and showcasing women's achievement and contribution, a lot of networking and mentorship programs for women, and most importantly, creating safe spaces where women groups can share and learn are important to promoting gender equality and inclusion.

Steps you take for equal opportunities and recognition for women in leadership positions

Sumit Kaushik: Equal opportunity and recognition of women, not only in leadership but all aspects of their accomplishment are key tenants to creating an inclusive environment. We at Virtusa actively work towards promoting women in leadership roles and also hiring women for open roles. Our women encoding program has garnered a great deal of enthusiasm from the women groups and motivated them to drive innovation for our customers. We celebrate their accomplishment and also provide a platform for inclusivity and role models.

Any advice for other leaders who aspire to be advocates for gender equality & inclusion in their organization

Sumit Kaushik: Change begins with yourself. So, start early, plan and execute. Invest in training yourselves on gender bias and microaggressions. Start with your own teams in driving and inclusive behavior. Celebrate successes and most importantly, keep an open mind for diverse perspectives.
