Speaker: Anna Travasos

Where did you complete your winter externship? (firm + city)

Anna Travasos: Hi, my name is Anna Travasos, and I completed my winter externship this year with Perkins & Will in Minneapolis.

What was a highlight from your time there?

Anna Travasos: During my externship, one of the highlights I had was working on LEED material research. I learned a lot about the LEED certification process and how much thought truly goes into material choice in a project by collaborating with a large team and engaging in discussion on construction administration for a higher education project.

In what ways do you see this experience influencing your education and career path?

Anna Travasos: This year, I completed my 2nd externship and visited a new city for the first time. Completing an externship really gives you the opportunity to visit a place you wouldn't have otherwise been able to go to and try it on for size. It also allows you to be integrated into a firm, being put on a project team, and truly becoming a part of their community for the short time that you're there. Both of my externships have impacted me greatly. Academically, my design process has improved and evolved, and professionally, I'm incredibly more connected and have the experience to decide what I'm looking for in a firm for internships and jobs going forward.
