Speaker: Savannah Washington, Manager, Early Learning and Education
Introduce yourself and tell us why fighting poverty and expanding opportunity is
so important to our region.
Savannah Washington: My name is Savannah Washington and I'm the manager for the Early Learning and Education pillar here at United Way of Greater Philadelphia and Southern New Jersey.
Describe how a gift to United Way helps people and families build the skills and support they need to rise above the poverty line.
Savannah Washington: United Way is unique in that it has four ways that it is targeting poverty in the greater Philadelphia area. And a gift helps us all work together collectively, to really target those issues and to help families, parents and communities alike rise above the issues that are causing poverty.
Share a story of a person whose life was positively impacted or an example of a solution made possible through donors' support.
Savannah Washington: One of the projects that comes to mind when I think about donor engagement and donor donations is the Parents Growing Together pilot, which is really helping parents to address their adverse childhood experiences and help them cope with stress and also find tools and ways to better engage with their children.
