Tell us about your job and what it involves
Dafne Mendoza: Hi, I'm Daphne Mendoza, MSA in digital marketing and head of marketing and social media at Weaver Labs. Our passion lies in crafting sales tech, a groundbreaking marketplace designed to redefine the landscape of infrastructure service. Our ultimate goal is to decentralize the internet and revolutionize the telecoms business model. In my particular role, I am entrusted with the responsibility of disseminating the core messages that encapsulate our vision. It's not just about reaching the telecoms audience, really, it's about captivating the entire world with our mission. And over the past year, my focus has been on cultivating a community that not only receives our messages but generally engages with our work. I've dedicated efforts on creating compelling narratives that narrate the profound story of our mission. So far I have created a community of over 6000 members and well, in essence, my objective is to broadcast the message that telecoms is the backbone of modern society and that we are just as exciting and sexy if you want as any other technology industry out there. And that's exactly what I believe. Sometimes telecoms has a lack of, we don't necessarily expand our boundaries we don't necessarily open the doors for any other individual outside telecoms to understand what we do and why, what we do is as relevant as many other industries. I believe that a few years ago that data science, for example, became such a sexy role and industry. And the reality is that we are not far, far from that, we are probably even more exciting if I may say and my role within Weaver Labs and in telecoms is to let people know that we have a purpose and that our purpose is exciting, is enriching, it has potential. And yeah, my mission is that.
How did you get there – what’s your career journey been so far?
Dafne Mendoza: Firstly, I earned my bachelor's degree in communication sciences, studying contemporary and modern communication methods. Subsequently, I pursued my initial MBA in my home country, Mexico. Following a few years, I sought a master's degree abroad and I found the University of the West of England, Bristol in England, which stood out for its impressive curriculum. Fortunately, my professional and academic achievements as reflected in my CV secured a scholarship facilitating my relocation to England. Throughout my career, I've had the privilege of working with prominent brands such as L'Oreal and Nespresso, Coca Cola and Cemex to name a few these experiences underscore the importance of effective communication tailored to diverse audiences and highlighted the significance of brands online reputation, which is pretty much what I stand for. I believe that having a solid presence online, which not necessarily means having many channels, but being committed to nurture each of these channels is what really made the difference. Um Well, with these background, I believe I positioned myself well for my current role at Weaver Labs, I continually enhance my understanding of conveying messages that are inherently complex, technical and often exclusive to audiences unfamiliar with the telecom language. Um It's an ongoing learning process for sure, requiring innovative communication strategies in the dynamic landscape of the industry.
What do you enjoy most about your job / the sector?
Dafne Mendoza: What I find most fulfilling in my role is a daily challenge of devising strategies to connect with a wider audience. Um Also being part of an industry that not only sustains the present but also shapes the future of society brings me immense satisfaction. Delving into the messages we convey is particularly enjoyable because at their core, these messages hold significant power and value yet unquestionably what I appreciate most about my job is the dynamic environment of a start-up where each achievement is cause of celebration. Um I mean, being with my team also brings me a lot of joy, but especially working alongside my CEO Maria Lema is especially rewarding as she imparts valuable insights that contribute to my continuous learning journey. So summing up what I love about my job and what I enjoy about my job is absolutely everything. I just don't like my daily activities, but I like my team. I like the challenges and I like how the potential of this, of this industry has yet not being fully shared with the world in a way that attracts more people. And I like to be there at the very front of this challenge and doing my best to bring more people and to, and to share the core messages that make this industry as valuable as it is.
What would you like people to know about working in telecoms and connectivity?
Dafne Mendoza: I would like to emphasize that the telecoms industry is not only exciting, challenging or innovative but also teeming with opportunities. It's not exclusively for those with technical backgrounds. Individuals like me without a telecom background can contribute significantly. And for the younger generation witnessing the daily evolution of connectivity, there are abundant avenues within telecoms waiting to be explored. But beyond the common perception of telecoms being just about antennas, fiber optics or the speed of 5G navigation, I aspire for more people to recognize its broader dimensions. Telecoms encompasses sustainability, digital inclusion, digital security and various other aspects that might not be immediately visible but hold immense importance. I believe shedding light on these multifaceted aspects will broaden the understanding of what the telecoms industry truly entails.
