My Trinity music journey: Skills that have had a lasting impact and shaped the person I am today

Adrian Dsouza: So my current path as a master's student in computer science at New York University as a software developer, uh, and my music journey may not seem related. However, the skills that I learned while preparing for the Trinity College exams had a lasting impact on my personality and me as a whole, uh, today. So some of the important skills that

What skills did you develop through the Trinity qualifications?

Adrian Dsouza: So some of the important skills that I learned while preparing for these exams would be like discipline and persistence. So I put together hours and hours of practising for a single performance that is around 3 months of dedication and hard work, and this is something that uh is even required in the tech industry, that is, you need to be strong with your foundation, get your skills, uh, right. And this persistence and dedication was developed for when I was practising uh to give these exams. Uh, apart from this, uh, creative thinking, I think, um, in music when you add your own, uh, flavour and your own style in things set you apart from the other composers and the other pieces that they have created. Uh, so on the similar grounds in when you create a project or some kind of application. Putting in your own style really helps uh to set apart your uh product that you have developed uh from the competitors, which gives you a clear advantage. So having your own personality and creative thinking does play a huge role.

Adrian Dsouza: Uh, and lastly, I would like to talk about collaboration and communication. So in the music, you always played with a couple of other people instruments, and all of you all need to come together to produce a good symphony and a harmony. So in the similar grounds when you're working in a project or with other people, you need to collaborate and communicate well with others so that you are in sync and at the end of the day, the project that you're working on comes out to be really good and that's the work. So yes, I do believe that the couple of skills that I picked up while preparing for these exams has really helped me today in shaping the person who I am.

What would you tell people thinking about a Trinity qualification?

Adrian Dsouza: So my advice to anyone who plans to take on the Trinity exams would definitely be a big yes. The skills that you learn and the finer details and experiences that you attain while preparing for these exams may not help you, um, immediately in your career that you have chosen or your goal, but in the later on, it will definitely be useful in whatever you plan to do. Because these skills not only develop um your career, but it also helps you to enhance yourself as an individual and grow personally. Apart from this, uh, the exams, um, the Trinity College conducts and takes, uh, are really good. The curriculum that they set. Really helps you to grow yourself at different stages of your musical journey by setting a required, um, goal at every stage. Uh, also, the skills that you develop will be really, really useful if you have a clear path to follow. So anyone who's interested in taking these exams, I definitely would suggest them that you all should.
