Why did we choose to update our Values? Why are they important?

Sam Li: There are two main reasons why we decided to update our company values. It's probably one year into the founding of Thoropass (back then "Laika") when Eva, Austin and myself sat down and wrote down our company values. A lot has changed since then. Both the world around us has changed. But also we as a company were much bigger in terms of employees, customer accounts revenue as well as scale and the level of complexity that we're dealing with as leadership teams. So we want to, you know, continue to find values that are close and dear to our hearts and, you know, are authentic to what we believe as founders, but also better fit the challenges and opportunity that we face as a company today versus three or four years ago. Uh Another reason is we, we also didn't do a great job evangelizing our value until now, right? These were uh a little bit boring, a little bit dry words on, on, on the wall. And, you know, we think there's a real opportunity to do it better this time and have something that is, you know, close and dear to our heart and really can resonate with all of you as members of the.

We've been going through a fairly large transformation as an organization to a performance based culture. And we felt that the values that we had in place weren't necessarily speaking directly to those behaviors that we felt were important to this next phase of growth for the company. It was also clear that they were hard to remember. Most people didn't remember and weren't able to really speak to those values. And so we felt it was really the right time to create values that were indicative of the behaviors that we value as a company that were important this next stage of growth, but also um values that could easily be um translated and uh shared and, and easily remembered by everyone in the organization and we chose to do that late last year. And we've been really excited to roll that forward.
