If you do not practice compassion towards your enemy, then towards whom can you practice compassion? It is very important to develop the right attitude towards one's enemy, because if one can think properly, one's enemies are the best spiritual teachers because their presence provide you with opportunity to enhance and develop tolerance, patience and understanding. And through enhancement of one's capacity for tolerance and patience, it makes it easier for the individual to enhance one's capacity for compassion and through that altruism and so on. So even for one's own spiritual path at the presence of enemy is very important. Nonviolence, actually, I consider the manifestation of genuine compassion and love.
