SEO Agency Owner Ali Abbas
Freelance Alliance Graduate
How did you get started as a freelancer?
I've been running my own business for about 4.5 years. I didn't think I was going to start an agency. I kind of fell into it and someone came to me and asked me for help. So I wanted to help them and then it kind of just snowballed from there. They recommended me to two other people, recommended me to other people. And then it kind of just grew.
How were things going before you took the course?
I think when you start something, you should start with the end in mind. I don't think I did it with this agency. Uh, it kind of just snowballed, uh, unpredictably in the right direction. So I was kind of caught off guard. So I was really just building the plane on the way down, to be honest with you, uh, hoping, you know, I'll be able to build it before it crashes into the ground. So I had a lot of bad habits at the beginning of the year. I was very close to quitting and it was mainly because I tried to scale, it didn't work out. I wasn't prepared. So that was my mindset at the beginning of the year. I'll probably bow out next year. And, uh, yeah, I don't think that's the case anymore.
What made you choose the Freelance Alliance course?
It kind of seemed like a no brainer because if you're learn from somebody you would probably want to learn from somebody who's, uh, who's very closely aligned to what you're currently doing. And since you ran an SEO agency and you were able to sell it for multiple millions of dollars, it was really intriguing. So, yeah, um, just wanted to just wanted to learn more and just kind of see if I'm just making mistakes.
What were you hoping to learn?
So for me personally, I think what I was looking for the most was more structure. Firstly, I wanted to see how you did it. It just compare and contrast to what I currently have going on. I didn't have any processes in place that my team can really rely on. So it took me a really long time to hire people and train them up. And then just apart from that, the finance side of things, I just learned a lot about sales, which I didn't think I was gonna learn a lot about in, in this course. So yeah, that, that was a nice little surprise.
Tell me more about what you learned in the course.
The other big thing that I learned from the sales was just how much more effort and preparedness you put in to every sales call as compared to what I was doing. I was basically preparing for like five minutes before, but just get on a call, do the audit like five minutes before show them what can be done, show them the pricing sheet, send them a follow up email if it's required and that's pretty much it and then just don't follow up ever again. Uh But then from your sales process, what I learned was like, yeah, just how much work you put in. So the, the, the chances of them get saying yes are a lot higher now. I'm also currently leveraging your template since we, we're both in SEO, a lot of the stuff does apply like pretty much 1 to 1. So that's been, that's been quite helpful.
How has your mindset changed since taking the course?
A lot more optimistic. I think the course itself brought a lot of clarity as to what can be achieved. Uh So now I think I'm a lot more motivated to kind of look at the sacrifices that I'm currently making in just something that could potentially pay off, you know, exponentially in the future. Whereas before I didn't really have this sort of, you know, light at the end of the tunnel.
How has your business performance changed since taking the course?
So since May, I think we were probably hovering around 40k MRR right now, we're 60 plus K MRR Uh Because of this course, we did end up changing a lot of our price points. So that can definitely be attributed to the course. I think we increased it almost like 25 percent. In that time period, we added around three people to the team.
What did you think about the 1 on 1 coaching you received?
It almost feels like every single problem I've kind of gone through, you've already kind of gone through it. It kind of just felt like. Yeah. Uh, I don't think I'll try to figure this out by myself. I'll just ask Allison!
Would you refer the course to others? How many stars?
This is not a hypothetical because I've already referred quite a few people to the course. I would give it a five. simply because I've taken other courses, but they tend to, to be quite general. Whereas with you, it's someone who's kind of gone through it, you're, you're able to draw on your own reference experiences. And yeah, that information is invaluable.
What advice would you give to others who are considering the course?
If you get a chance, definitely take the course and if you get a chance to just talk to Allison, I think you will end up getting the course. So I think just uh starting with a conversation. Um, and I'm pretty sure you're gonna be sold on Allison.
