Annamarie van der Merwe: I'm Annamarie van der Merwe, the Executive Chair of the FluidRock Governance Group, and I really want to extend a warm and sincere thank you to Matt Comins for nearly four years of financial business and just general mentorship and guidance to our finance team, our board of directors and everyone involved in the business. Thank you, Matt.
What one or two big issues/untapped opportunities were you facing before we started working with you?
Annamarie van der Merwe: Bringing four businesses together in 2018 - it goes without saying that we needed real expertise to deal with the myriad of issues that were found in the different companies and what I sometimes refer to 'untangling the fishing rod mess' that we found in certain areas.
What have been the benefits to your business specifically?
Annamarie van der Merwe: Having easy and quick access to an FD that can assist and support at all levels in the business, from strategic to operational matters has definitely been one of the big benefits for us. Matt has become part of the team here and gives us fit for purpose solutions in our business.
What have the benefits been to you personally?
Annamarie van der Merwe: For a small business, it's imperative to get the best skills in the team. So to have access to the equivalent of a financial director as a member in your team, and one that brings with him a broad experience in the different industries that he operates in, gave me, personally, great peace of mind and confidence in the advice coming from Matt.
With support from your CFO, what are you hoping to achieve over the coming 12-24 months?
Annamarie van der Merwe: The FluidRock Group is currently embracing E-commerce as a new channel of business, and in doing so, we are relying heavily on the advice of Matt and The FD Centre to guide us through very complex minefields around the financial arrangements, including matters such as tax and foreign currency and related issues.
