Speaker: Asia McCoy, Site Coordinator , Communities in Schools of Southern Nevada
Asia McCoy: I would recommend this training to anybody because this training is for everyone.
Introduce yourself: name, organization (if applicable) and what kind of work you do.
Asia McCoy: My name is Asia. I work for communities and schools and I work with Nevada's youth.
Share a story from your experience with CMBM when something truly clicked for you.
Asia McCoy: I came into this experience with Center for Mind Body Medicine, trying to find a way to connect my interests personally and my own personal well-being and professionally, and finding ways to integrate both of those together. And I think I really found a true passion and understanding that there, it is possible to to mesh these two, these two things together, personal and professionally. And Just being able to sit with a community of people who truly do care about, mental wellbeing, and just knowing that there's an entire program and organization that already exists, that does the work that I want to envision myself doing, which is super eye opening and really inspiring, and definitely has set a lot of courage to, to continue my own training personally as well.
In what ways has this work changed the way you show up — not just as a facilitator of this work, but as a person?
Asia McCoy: This work has changed how I plan to talk and communicate and collaborate with the people in my life, whether it be family, friends, just all loved ones, even just someone that you meet down the street, just understanding and giving people a lot more grace and not taking things so personally. And also finding ways just out and about in life to kind of drop in and center myself, and make sure that I show up the best version that I can. And if I continuously show up the best way that I can, the best way I know how with all these tools, hopefully that will have a trickle down effect on to other people. And you can lead by example that way, being a regulated, emotionally regulated person, hopefully then can teach other, maybe unemotionally regulated people to then become emotionally regulated. So.
If you had to describe your CMBM experience in three words, what would they be, and why?
Asia McCoy: If I could describe my experience, I would say it was transformative, encouraging, and communal.
Would you recommend our training to others? Why?
Asia McCoy: I would recommend this training to anybody because this training is for everyone. Um, you know, and it's invaluable just being able to understand ourselves emotionally, and being able to have the tools to just make life not as hard. Um, life is already hard as it is, but you having a few things under your belt that you know, work for you and make you feel OK, no matter what instance you may be in. Big or small, I think that's just, it's key to making sure that if you take care of yourself, you can then take care of others and I think that would just lead to a world of good, so.
