Speaker: Dr. Elizabeth Matzkin, Chief of Women’s Sports Medicine, Brigham and Women's Hospital

Dr. Elizabeth Matzkin: Hi, everyone. I'm Liz Matzkin. I'm an orthopedic surgeon specializing in sports medicine at Mass General Brigham in Boston, Massachusetts.

Dr. Elizabeth Matzkin: I wanted to tell you a little bit about the 26th Annual AAOS/AOSSM/AANA Sports Medicine Course happening in Park City, Utah, February 1 through 4. It's going to be an amazing course. We're going to cover everything sports medicine. We'll talk about hip arthroscopy, meniscus. We have an incredible section on orthobiologics. We'll talk about ACL and multi-ligament knees. We will cover everything, patellar instability, cartilage. We'll have a session on pediatric sports injuries. We'll talk everything shoulder to include rotator cuff, instability, the thrower's shoulder, and then we'll also talk about those other sports injuries that we often don't spend a lot of time discussing. It's an amazing course. We have world-class faculty that will be there presenting, and there'll be plenty of time to hit the slopes.

What's new at this year's Sports Medicine Course?

Dr. Elizabeth Matzkin: We will have some new and unique sessions at the course this year, one of which will be called our yard sale sessions in which we'll talk about complications and difficult cases and how you get out of those complications, manage them, and get yourself back on course. Faculty are going to present very real cases that they've dealt with. We will also have some open sessions where participants can bring their own cases to present and discuss with faculty members. And lastly, there are always some great surgical technique videos, to show us some of the newest and best ways to take care of some of these sports injury problems.

What makes this course special?

Dr. Elizabeth Matzkin: My favorite aspect of this course is that it is a great learning opportunity in an atmosphere where questions can be asked, cases can be discussed. It's not so formal that you don't want to raise your hand, ask about a technique or a complication, and there's a lot of back and forth, so we hear different opinions about how to manage different cases. It really is a fun way to learn and a great place to spend some time with our colleagues.

Dr. Elizabeth Matzkin: Come spend some time with us in Park City. Bring your family, bring your friends. The course takes place early in the morning. We have the whole late morning and early afternoon off to ski and snowboard. We resume in the late afternoon. It's a great place to be, so come spend some time with us.
