Speaker: Ronke Majekodunmi, Senior Product Manager, PayPal

Please could you introduce yourself?

Ronke Majekodunmi: Hi everyone. I'm Ronke Majekodunmi, Senior Product Manager at Paypal, and I am excited to be participating at the Product-Led Festival this year. Thank you for having me.

What will you be discussing at the upcoming Product-Led Festival?

Ronke Majekodunmi: I am so excited to be participating in a panel this year that we're going to be talking about product management in the remote working era. And I'm personally excited because I'm going to be on a panel with a couple of my colleagues from other organizations and we'll get to share our experiences, our lessons learned, what we wish we had known before the pandemic started and how we've rallied to not only make our teams better but to build best in class products. And I still look forward to sharing my thoughts and my experiences there.

What nugget of wisdom are you hoping to leave attendees with after your talk?

Ronke Majekodunmi: If there is one nugget of wisdom, I want to leave attendees with, it goes like this... empathy. If we have empathy, we can better understand our customers, what they need, why they need it, the impact it has on their lives. And if we can do that, then it means that we can internalize their needs, which also means that we can then use our intuition and what that means. That we can actually build products for them that they don't even know they need. And that means that we can make great products that fulfills utility and that delight our customers. And that is how we win in the market. The other thing about empathy is we also have to be able to apply empathy to our colleagues, our scrum teams, our leadership, our partners because they as well have been impacted by the pandemic and we now we have a new normal of how we all work together. Whether it's hybrid, whether it's working from home or those that have gone back to the office, we now need to take a step back and let empathy drive a lot of our discussions, We moved our own teams. So empathy plays a big part, not just with our customers but with our own teams as well

Which other sessions are you looking forward to watching at the festival?

Ronke Majekodunmi: The other sessions that I personally am looking forward to watching at the festival this year is the talk on building inclusive teams. I myself, I'm always looking for ways to be a better leader so that I can build diverse inclusive teams. Because guess what? We are building products for an emerging global market, that emerging global market is constantly changing. Their needs are changing. And it comes from a diverse place as well. Therefore it is important that our own teams not only be inclusive but be diverse as well, because that's how we're all gonna build products for our communities that are going to last for years to come. And the reason why we really need those inclusive and diverse teams is because they have different, distinct lived experiences, geography, circumstances, I mean just perspectives in general, and we need all those different perspectives at the table when we build inclusive products. So I look forward to it.
