Speaker: Triscena Valentine, 5th Grade Teacher
Tell us about your favorite teacher or colleague, and why they inspire you.
Triscena Valentine: Good morning. My name is Christina Valentine and I'm a teacher, fifth grade teacher here at Doyle Ryder Elementary School in Flint, Michigan. If we're talking about my favorite teacher that would be astronaut. She is no longer teaching, but she was my sixth grade teacher at ST Stewart Elementary when I was in school. Um She inspired me to be a better scholar and a better person through patience, love and guidance. And she wasn't even aware of that until last year because she still volunteers her time during March to come in to read to the students here at Doyle Ryder. And I let her know the impact she had on me as 1/6 grade student. Now, if we talked about teachers that are currently teaching, that will be Lashonda Warren. She is 1/6 grade teacher here at Doyle Ryder and she inspires what Mr Nards inspires in her students as well as in her colleagues. She goes above and beyond. She is not only a teacher, she is a mentor, she is an inspiration to colleagues and she deserves recognition. So those are my two favorite teachers. You guys have a great day.
What's your favorite part about being a teacher?
Triscena Valentine: My favorite part about being a teacher is when I'm providing instruction and I can see the excitement that my students get in their eyes. That OK, I understand it. I got it. And then they're all raising their hands at one time because they're ready to answer questions or they're ready to help the next person that may be struggling with the answer. It makes me aware that I am on the right path to helping them with their learning.
