Speaker: Tracey Schantz, Director of Learner Experience, Teaching Channel
Welcome to Teaching Channel! A few helpful hints on selecting your term.
Tracey Schantz: Hello and welcome to teaching channel. My name is Tracey Schatz. I'm the Director of Learner Experience. I'm here today to talk with you about selecting the right term that works best for you. When you register for your future course or courses on the teaching channel website, you will be represented with the option to choose from uh either a spring, a summer or a fall term depending on the time of year. This is one thing that is slightly different from your past experience with your advancement courses. Checkout previously, you were provided six months for completion of your course from your date of registration with the term process, you have a little bit more flexibility in regards to which course, which course would you like to complete at a certain time? For example, right now, if you were checking out, you would be able to choose from the fall term or the spring term. Our fall term is currently open. You may begin your courses within just a few hours of registration and your coursework is due by November 15th. If that's a good timeline for you and you like a transcript before say mid January, then fall is the route you'd want to go if you'd like a little more time to complete your courses and you have a little bit more leeway with your transcript due date. You could then look at our spring term. Spring is also currently open again. You'll have access to your courses within just a few hours of registration. And with the spring courses, you may complete them any time through April 15th. The difference with the spring course is you could complete early. That would be totally fine, but we also have a grade release date. So each term is going to be open in full on the teaching channel cart for about 8 to 9 months in full. You may then register any time within that 8 to 9 months and complete any time. However, if you're looking for that transcript, there is a specific grade release date with each of our terms. So for example, if you're registering right now for fall, we're past the grade release date, your grade will post nightly as you complete your courses and the grade is awarded. If you're registering for Spring right now, you can complete your course in full. The grade will remain in our canvas portal. It will not transfer over to post to the university partner until January 2nd. At that point, the spring term has opened for the university partners and they will now begin accepting grades for us. So kind of a little trick to keep in mind when choosing the best term for you is to really think about the, the date that that semester would typically begin or the approximately begin with the universities. So for example, spring term begins in January with universities. So at the start of January is when we can release those grades. summer term begins roughly end of May, middle of May. So that is when we can release the summer grades and then fall term begins around September with universities. And the beginning of September is when we can start releasing early grades for fall session. So selecting your term is very easy. It gives you more leeway to decide. Do I want to preplan, do I want to plan to take 10 courses right now? I'd like to register right now. Say for 10 courses, I will choose five for the fall term and I will choose five for the spring term. So the beauty of having the term selection is you can register for more courses at one time. That's something you're interested in. Thanks for visiting. And we look forward to talking with you more on the new teaching channel website. Have a great day.
