How do you personally embrace Black History Month?

Chioma : Hi everyone, my name is Chioma, and I personally embrace Black history month as a month of appreciation for my peers, appreciation for my family, my friends, my work colleagues for a lot of the hard work and sacrifices that they've made into shaping my world. I also use this time to just learn about the different cultures and um, immerse myself within those cultures, whether it be by food, by music or learning a new language, um, and also supporting black businesses as well. And um, yeah, just taking this time to celebrate our differences, but also appreciate a lot of those similarities that we have.

Alix: Thank you. Hello, my name is Alex, I'm a recruiter here at Sunrun and um, I personally embrace Black History month in a number of ways. But the main way that comes to mind is just taking it as an opportunity to be grateful, to be grateful for the opportunity to be a part of this community that has contributed so much to the United States of America and really to society at large. So it's an opportunity for me to just reflect on again the contributions of black individuals and even the current, you know, just beautiful things that make up the black community, the restaurants, the businesses, the cultural celebrations, things of that nature. So it's a month where I really take time to reflect on and to appreciate those things.

How does Sunrun create a safe space to be your authentic self?

Chioma : I believe Sunrun creates a safe space for me to be my authentic self because of the people that are within Sunrun. A lot of the conversations that I've had with my peers, with the leaders that I've worked with have been extremely open, and I feel as though my voice can be heard, and every one of those conversations also working with the ERG team and the DE&I team has honestly had such a positive influence in my time here. I truly hope that Sunrun continues to foster and maintain this commitment to inclusion and diversity because it honestly has had such a great impact and such a positive influence on my time here and feeling like I can bring my authentic self to work.

Alix: How does Sunrun create a safe space for me to be my authentic self? It does so by being committed to diversity, inclusion and belonging. There are multiple employee resource groups here, Sunrun is committed to employee diversity training, and those are just a few examples of the ways that Sunrun again is committed to creating a safe space where everyone feels like they can be authentic and as a black person, that means a lot, and it's something that I don't take for granted.
