What is Regrind?

Neil Wilson: So we get asked a lot of questions about re-grind, what is it and how is it made? So we make regrind by taking the waste from when we press records, things like this flash that comes off the edge of the record as its trims. We take records that might not have passed QA for whatever reason, there might be a problem on the label. And we put that through our granulator and grind it down to make a product that we can reuse. We punch the center holes out so that there's no paper that goes through, and then our granulator sends it through a special vacuum and that removes any dust particles, so that what we get is a nice pure PVC that we can use to make new records. And you can see here, you'll get different shades in it because we can never make it totally pure of color, so with our green mix at the moment, there's light, there's dark, there's some clear in there. But what that does, it makes records that have got really great marbling through it. From an audio perspective it's fantastic, still makes great records, and the really good thing about this is it keeps all this stuff out of landfill, and anything we can do to reduce our waste will do. So, that's how we make regrind.
