The Secret's Out

Andy Jans-Brown: Hi, guys, the inspiration behind the song. Well, the song begins with the line, I've got a tale to tell you and some of it might even be true. The author is lying but the medium has power and there's charisma to the guy. And so we wanna believe him, I guess. The whole album is called Falling. And it's a look at all the ways in which humans fall; from you know, our falling in love to the fall of empires to, falling for propaganda and falling for lies and falling for our own little, thinking patterns, our own cognitive biases and, I guess that's what inspired the song. It's playful, it's fun. It's meant to be ironic. I hope you enjoy it.

Tell us more...

Andy Jans-Brown: I wrote this song, coming out of a writer's block. I had struggled to write since, I put out my last album was in 2018. I did manage to put out a couple of singles between then and now, but I really had struggled with words for quite some time. There'd been a lot of division in the world. We'd gone through a lot of cultural changes and I'd really, wanted to say something that I felt was true, and that had meaning for others and not just for myself. I really struggled to find my voice and then I was reading Jeff Tweedy's book, how to write one song which look, it's not a huge revelation, but it did free me up enough to kind of remember about the importance of just having fun, having fun and trusting and, and just going back to journaling and doing it, you know, morning pages and, just finding a way to express yourself and trusting that it does have meaning for other humans out there.
