Speakers: Saba Kozinska (aka Silly McWiggles)
Saba Kozinska (aka Silly McWiggles): If you know anything about Phebe and she's been in the music business for over a decade, I guess, forget anything about about anything that you might know about Phebe and her style and her aesthetic because this album to me is a bit different. In the sense that I almost have this impression as if she had been writing the songs in different eras of her life, and that is reflected in the style and the genres of the songs. So, I would say that people from like coming from different places with different music tastes will find themselves reflected on this album a lot and just to give you a taster of it. For instance, it opens on a banger which is called "One Step. Two Step, and I love the opening line because anybody can relate to a story like this: oh lover lover, why you treat me like that? you give me a pressure like a heart attack. So that's number one. Second of all, there are songs on this album which remind me very much of the era when I was born, like the 80s and the synth vibes, and that is another banger, Lover. There is, I know Phebe doesn't want to use the word nostalgia when it comes to this album, but I would say that Sleepwalking, one of my favorite songs on this album, is kind of like a nostalgic indie tune, and the song that stands out for me because it's sonically very different and it splits the album in two, I would say like it's very pronounced then. The kind of like the change of mood is the Purple Crow, a very futuristic song and I love it because it's very kind of like modern vintage. In fact, that's the word that I would use to describe this album. It's kind of like modern vintage if you know what I mean. When it comes to the lyrics, I think there is an overarching theme as well. Obviously we never know what the artist meant when they were writing the songs unless they tell you explicitly. But I can sense that, you know, Phebe is talking about human connection and relationships and there is the themes of longing and, you know, love and being close to somebody and she even mentioned in one of the interviews that she was worried about the digital age and what it did to human relationships. So I guess that was maybe one of the elements that she wanted to incorporate in this album as well.
