Sometimes I failed to answer the call when I left it all to chance So many things I did before, but I never missed the dance... That's a track called "Renaissance Rambler". It's a great R&B stomper that sets this great record up. Thanks very much to the folks at Suitcase Records for letting me listen to the first pressing of Betting on Blak, the debut album for Jungaji that comes out in June. It's a soulful journey through the life and times of a man who's seen much and experienced the highs and lows of life, and one that honours his ancestors, both near and far. "Wakka Wakka Woman" is a celebration and thank you to the strongest women in Jungaji's life. And "Ol' Rooster", in Jungaji's words, "is a salute and celebration of the strongest man I've ever met, and blessed to have this warrior as my father". And the bottom line is, it's a great record, and I'm happy to put it on my turntable. Good music is good music in whatever genre it comes in. And this is just that - good music. So if you're looking for something new... homegrown sounds that you can bang on Sunday afternoon for some wax tracks and chill... It's hard to go past the debut record from Jungaji, 'Betting on Blak' Thanks again to Suitcase Records for this first pressing. Cheers.
