Millicent O.: I am Millicent Cunningham Owens and I represent Hale County School System. I am a 2nd grade teacher at Greensboro Elementary, and I love what I do.
How does Studies Weekly add to your instruction?
Millicent O.: We study the Studies Weekly for Social Studies, and we are enjoying it. We have found that the Social Studies Weekly really adds to our component for social studies and we've been really working hard on trying to get it in every week. So, Social Studies Weekly is everything we need for that little strand. We're also excited because this year, we're going to also have the science strand. So we're going to have Science Weekly as well.
How does Studies Weekly help you save time in the classroom?
Millicent O.: First of all, being a classroom teacher, we are pressed for time, and time management is a necessity that is necessary right now, right then. So we really don't have a lot of time but when we do, we find that the Social Studies Weekly, it is already there for us busy teachers.
How do you incorporate Studies Weekly?
Millicent O.: What we do is we take the Social Studies Weekly, we incorporate it with our curriculum, the skills that we are needing, the scope and sequence, and we try to match It as best we can, and it does match. It touches a lot of things that we need in 2nd grade. I think really, really clear on the citizenship Social Studies Weekly, and the children really have a lot of time. But I love the interactive newspaper-like format. This year was different it was new because we got the whole cute thing, and it was filled with all kinds of activities and information. But what I also love on the back of these Social Studies Weekly is that we have graphic organizers and things where the boys and girls can write down things that they comprehend and things that they're learning and things like that, and the main thing for us right now is writing because writing is another area that we are kind of struggling, but we need to improve. So we find that the Social Studies Weekly gives us an opportunity to do some more writing.
How do you incorporate Studies Weekly?
Millicent O.: We do it as grade level and we do it by the theme. They are theme-based, I love that. And also there is enough to last the whole school year. So when we get these, we are so excited when our boxes come. I believe before we left school, Social Studies Weekly had already arrived and I believe science. So we're excited and for those of you that have never tried it. Hey, take it from a pro at Social Studies Weekly incorporating, use it. Take advantage of it. It is so awesome and the boys and girls really do love it. They really do love it. So I'm excited about it. We're looking forward to 2024-25 and being able to present our Social Studies Weekly again in addition to our Science Weekly. So go Social Studies Weekly! We love you guys.
