Speaker: SCOTT McDONALD, Illlinois
SCOTT McDONALD: One of my favorite teachers was Mr. Hatfield, a high school history teacher that I had. And one of the best things about Mr. Hatfield was he really challenged me and challenged my whole class to think about the world differently and to really examine history and the impacts that it has on our, on us today and how it impacts the future.
What would you say to that teacher right now?
SCOTT McDONALD: I think I would tell Mr. Hatfield. Just thank you. Thank you for pushing me to be a better student. Thank you for pushing me to be a much more critical thinker. And thank you for pushing me to not necessarily accept the status quo and the sanitized version of history that students are often given. He helped make me the person that I am today and helped shape the world view that I have now to continue to fight for equity and to fight for that full accounting of history that is so important for all students.
