What topic are you speaking about at CMTS 2023?
Ed Goffin: Hi, my name's Ed Goffin. I'm Vice President of Product Marketing with Pleora Technologies. We're an Ottawa-based company with over 23 years of history in the machine vision connectivity and manufacturing sectors. Over 1,500 customers use our products in industrial automation, medical imaging and security and defense applications. At CMTS, I'm going to be talking about deployment strategies for AI. There's been a lot of hype around AI, but many manufacturers that we work with are scared away by the complexity and costs of the new technology. That doesn't have to be the case. I'll take you through a few deployment strategies, in particular looking at an electronics assembly manufacturer and a distillery who are using AI to first solve a critical error-prone process in their manufacturing steps. While they're solving this problem, they're gathering data that can then help guide their industrial automation evolution.
What are your expectations from CMTS 2023?
Ed Goffin: We're really looking forward to CMTS This will be Pleora's first time exhibiting at this show. And it's a great opportunity for us to learn more about the exact challenges and issues the manufacturing sector in Canada is facing. The best thing about trade shows for us is when someone brings us their problem and we can work together on a solution. There're so many times with these events, someone will show up with, you know, I've got these screws. Can you inspect? I'm looking for this fault or this type of fault or I produce this type of product and I'm consistently seeing these types of issues. Can you help us? So bring us your quality problems to Booth 512. And we can show you how AI and vision can make manufacturing processes consistent, reliable and traceable.
What message would you like to convey to the audience at CMTS while personally inviting them to experience your session at CMTS 2023?
Ed Goffin: Whether you come to my session or visit Pleora at Booth 512. The important thing to remember is that AI does not have to be complex and costly. With the right strategy, a manufacturer can first solve a critical problem, gain comfort with tools and employee buy-in and look at other areas where technology can help save you time and money with AI and vision, you can start making end-to-end manufacturing steps, consistent, repeatable and traceable.
