Speakers: Karla King
Hello, everybody. My name is Karla King and I recently graduated from Florence High School. I have been attending Northwest Shoals Community College since the summer of 2024.
I am still working towards my degree to become a registered ultrasound technologist.
The (12 for Life) program has blessed me a lot with knowledge and credentials that I would not have acquired otherwise. I learned how to be punctual to work. I learned how to work with others. I learned financial literacy and I also earned many certifications through the 12 for Life program.
I knew that they offered scholarships, but I never really thought much of it.
The team leads and supervisors were holding meetings saying that I needed to apply. And I waited, I ended up waiting like a week before I applied.
But I remember, I think it was like a week later, Mr. Johnson, he called me to his office and I thought I was in trouble because if you know me, I have a loud laugh. So I thought I might have been in trouble for that or something. But his demeanor was like happy. So I, I really was like, this must be something good and he told me that I won the scholarship and I was just very, very ecstatic for that. I just didn't even think that I would truly win.
I was really worried about being able to pay for college and stuff, but now I'm not really worried at all.
To anyone thinking of joining 12 for Life, please do it. They have such great people, amazing incentives and benefits, et cetera. And I wouldn't change the way anything happened for the world.
