Please introduce yourself and share what career you are pursuing and how this scholarship award will help you.

Katelynn Poulsen: Hello, my name is Katelynn Poulsen. I'm a third semester welding student here at Salt Lake Community College. I am pursuing my associates degree in welding fabrication and inspection. I am due to be completed with my degree in May 2023, so it's coming up finally. So a little bit about me, I was born and raised in Utah. I'm a second generation welder. I practically grew up in the shop. My dad was a fabricator for over 25 years. So I mean that's really what pushed me on this path to pursue welding. But I was a fabricator as well as a CNC laser operator and a machinist for a few years before I started going to school which was really fun and exciting to learn new things. So I think that this scholarship would really benefit me not only to help me with my tuition but also upgrade some of my PPE which is in dire need of replacement. And not only that, but there's always books I need to buy like every semester and just tools and consumables like tungsten and contact tips for Mig welding, it's just honestly there's a bunch I could use it the money for. but tuition is probably the biggest thing for me, so, but yeah, thank you

What would you like to say to the donors who made this scholarship possible?

Katelynn Poulsen: One thing I would love to say to the donors of this scholarship is truly thank you. Like there's no other way for me to say it. times are really hard in this economy. There's no other way to put it. I do work full time and go to school full time. I do that in order to pay my way through school. luckily SLCC does offer tuition payment plans, which does seem to help a lot, but like I had to sell my vehicle to even start going to school. So really any assistance makes a huge impact in my life. Whether it be I can start buying a little more food because I'm not having to put so much towards tuition and books. but anything helps. I would, I'm just so honored and grateful for this opportunity and I would like to thank everybody involved.
