Please introduce yourself & share with us why you are choosing this educational program & career path.
Daniela Mendoza: Hi, my name is Daniela Mendoza and I'm currently a student at Texas State Technical College here in Waco, Texas. I am enrolled in the biomedical equipment technician pathway, and I chose this because I had been doing dual enrollment all throughout my high school career. It's basically where by the time you graduate, you're set to have your associates because you're taking college level classes. And the only reason I was doing it was just because all of my other classmates had been doing it as well, all of my friends. So I was like, why shouldn't I do it as well? But I didn't really like anything that they had. I kept trying new stuff. I didn't like anything. And once I graduated high school I went back to my community college and I finished up the year that I had to get my associates, just to get my associates. And I was like, I don't know what to do now. I don't really want to go back to college and that's whenever I started looking into other stuff. And then I found the TSTC and I looked at the programs that they had and I found the biomedical program. I started looking into that and then I found out what it was. I really liked it. I've always wanted to be in the health care field, but I didn't want to be a nurse or a doctor or any of that. So whenever I found this, I feel like it kind of stood out to me and I can't wait to, hopefully in the future, be at a hospital and be a technician.
What would you like to say to STERIS for making this scholarship possible & how it will impact your life?
Daniela Mendoza: I just want to say thank you to everybody at STEROS for giving me the opportunity to have this scholarship. And it definitely does help because whenever I was informed about the scholarship, I was like, oh, I should apply for it and I'll just see what happens because at the time I didn't even know if I was going to come back for the spring semester because I still owed a little bit of money, even though I did have financial aid, it didn't cover all of it. And I was like, if I get it, I get it and if I don't, then I'm, I'm just not going to come back for the next semesters and just try to save up my money and see if I can go back for maybe the fall. But this definitely helps because now I don't have to wait and I can just keep going with my classmates and be able to do what I love.
