Speaker: Wendy Parrett

Wendy Parrett: Hello, my name's Wendy and I live on the Isle of Wight.

Wendy Parrett: Sketch Awesome has been brilliant in particular ways for me. It's made me try things I never thought possible, especially the Loomis method. I'm creating a portrait, still some areas that I'm not brilliant at, but at least the forward facing face, I'm much better, thank you. Also, it's made me try things I've never thought I would do such as gouache. I've never tried it before. I've tried acrylics, I still work with watercolour mainly, but the gouache, now I've got, I've grown to love. So that's a good thing.

Wendy Parrett: These are some of the pictures I've done, some better than others, not very keen on that one, but the toucan I quite liked. I quite like a landscape. They were a bit rubbish! Well there is a Loomis method. Not very good, but I like that girl there, that's my favourite one because she looks real. First effort with gouache and if I can find another one where I've done gouache as well... Hmm, can't seem to find one here! Oh, that was where we did - we coloured our own paper and drew over the top of it. I liked doing that. Yeah, that was fun to do. Never thought I'd ever do dinosaurs in my life. And these are... ...I rushed that one a bit, but that one I quite liked. And this is the foreshortening second attempt, but still not good. But yeah. Loads of just different things. Each week, something different, which is really enjoyable - - challenging too, especially when I saw what we're going to do, and I thought, "Oh my word, I'm never going to be able to do that"! But it's surprising, with Phil's teaching, I managed to do quite a lot, so...

Wendy Parrett: I would recommend,Sketch Awesome to anybody who's interested in art. It seems daunting to do a whole year, but it's only one a week, and then you get rest weeks and things like that. And you may get a challenge week, but I've found that it stirs me up and makes me do stuff, whereas it's so easy to put it off and think, "Oh, I haven't got time for that now"... but you can make time and you certainly can. Go ahead !
