Speaker: Cathy Josephson

Cathy Josephson: Hi, my name is Kathy Kathy Josephson. I was born and raised in the United States, and about 30 years ago, I moved here to Iceland where my father's parents were born...

Cathy Josephson: ...and It's a great life!

Cathy Josephson: Sketch Awesome has been great for several reasons. The group of of people who are part - - were part of this - - or are part of this series of lessons are wonderful supporters. Whatever ability we have, we don't care. We just enjoy each other's work and everything we post. There's always something good, even if we don't think we're doing good work, someone sees something very interesting, even beautiful in what we post, and that's very encouraging. The other thing that is very, very good is that I have learned so much more about things like, yeah, simply how to draw a straight line; how to make a circle. And how to... ...just be at peace or calm as I look at a new project, a new lesson and think of what Phil has wanted us to learn and also know that we have - all of us - have the freedom to branch out. And in fact, I'm quite sure that he enjoys that we come up with new ideas. And learn new things and head out on our own. And those are really the two, I think, best things about Sketch Awesome.

Cathy Josephson: Well, one of my favourites is something that Phil had us try in the first half of our one year. And I really, really like this. I think they both turned out very well. Of course, I can see things that could have been done better, but that's OK. They were posted, and I'm satisfied with that. I had the confidence to do that and that's also a good step forward. Another favourite is of a summer holiday that my husband and I had in the Shetland Islands - actually starting in Edinburgh and then the Shetland Islands and also Orkney. And this is what I drew about our vacation there and it was good memories, very good memories on doing that. And then there might be one more. that I would like to show you and that one is a lesson about working with old masters. And there you see the Girl With The Pearl Earring. And then there's another that I decided to do, and that is of my grandmother, and this is of her when she was, I don't know, probably about about 18. And I was very pleased with how that turned out as well. And that is, they are probably three of my favourites.

Cathy Josephson: I would definitely recommend Sketch Awesome to any artists, not just hobby artists, but those who sell their paintings and live by making art. One of the biggest reasons is the community support that we all share, whether we are professional or hobby and I am myself probably a hobby artist, though I sell when I can. And the other reason is that we do have a great instructor. Phil is very good at teaching us both good practices and even a few tricks, and It's just been a wonderful experience this last year and a little over, of learning and sharing art with Phil and the fellow students.
