Aarti Sarwal, MD, FAAN, FNCS, FCCM: Hello, I'm Aarti Sarwal, the Social Media Editor of Critical Care Medicine. Here are my top reads from the June issue of CCM. The first is an article by Chandel and the group that brings new light to outcomes related to prolonged runs of VV ECMO in patients with protracted ARDS. The authors use data from the ELSO registry that includes 13,000 plus patients over 10 years in the study with about 30% patients supported on VV ECMO over 21 days and about 7% patients supported over 50 days. They report on relationship between case volumes, duration of ECMO and survival especially in non-COVID ARDS. An equally interesting read is the editorial to this article by Usman and Cannon that addresses deeper aspects of this question like parameters of initial consent, reimbursement and resource allocation. The second article you should not miss is by SCCM's task force on Diversity Equity and Inclusion in Renal Clinical Practice. The authors provide a comprehensive review and guidance on equitable kidney function estimation in critical care. Lastly, don't forget to check out Lauren Sorce's presidential address from the 2024 annual Congress. She shares her journey from a pediatric critical care nurse to a nurse practitioner and getting involved with SCCM. She then reflects on how SCCM our organization has grown in the last five decades and how it's working with other critical care organizations embracing for global equity in critical care. May we live in interesting times of growth. For more articles, please follow us on X and Facebook. Have a great week. Goodbye.
