Speaker: Rob, Devon & Cornwall Police
When did you first hear about Serve and Protect Credit Union and why did you join?
Rob: So I first heard about the Police [Serve and Protect] Credit Union when I first joined the police. So 14, nearly 15 years ago. It was promoted as a reliable and accessible way to borrow money and save money. So yeah, it was promoted as soon as I joined and became a member straight away.
How has the credit union helped you?
Rob: I think it's fair to say that the Police [Serve and Protect] Credit Union has helped me in times where I've been able to save. But more crucially, it's helped me when the chips have really been down. Um, a relationship breakdown, having to move house, suddenly buy furniture and having very little disposable income to help that process. The Police [Serve and Protect] Credit Union were there to provide me those funds quickly, efficiently, professionally. But above all in a really friendly way. There was no hard sell, just really supportive. And more recently, since things have been better, they helped me buy my dream van and again, just a really straightforward process. And early settlement wasn't an issue, either. So all in all, massively helpful and been a big part of my financial life in the police.
What is the best thing about being part of the credit union?
Rob: I think it's just the quiet presence to be able to save without realising it and to know that there's an organisation there that should I need to borrow money quickly, cheaply and safely that they're there as well. So, like I say, it's that quiet, financial, reassuring presence in the background that's always there.
