Speaker: Ida from Germany, Golden Secondary School, Grade 10

Why did you choose Rocky Mountain International Student Program for your study abroad experience?

Ida from Germany: So when I decided that I wanted to go to Canada, I knew that I wanted to be somewhere in the mountains. I could go skiing and just have the nature around me, around mountains around me. Just have like a completely different life that I have in Germany. And I just wanted to have the experience for a year and I knew that I didn't want to be in a big city. I just want to travel more quiet and more like that life in the mountains. So that's why I decided that the RMISP program was the best fit for me and my ideas.

What do you like best about the community you live in?

Ida from Germany: So I'm staying in Golden and I definitely like the nature around here, the best, just the mountains and the river and just the landscape. I really enjoy that. Also having the opportunity of going skiing every weekend With the ski hill that's just 20 minutes away, like up the hill. So I definitely do enjoy that. And I also really like the people and the way they are here that everyone is so kind and nice and open. So I really like that.

What do you like best about your school?

Ida from Germany: So in school I definitely enjoy the subjects the most. Um I really like having subjects like foods or wood work, metal work, outdoor education. Its subjects I've never heard about in Germany and it's just great like during your long school day having those non academic subjects and yeah, I really enjoy that.

What do you like best about your homestay?

Ida from Germany: In my host family, I definitely really like the house and the view that we have. The first thing I see when I wake up on the mountains and I'm definitely going to miss that a lot just having like the view and the nature around and just the location and yeah, I'm really lucky. We go on trips a lot and we do stuff together. So I really enjoyed that part.

What has been the best part of your experience with Rocky Mountain International Student Program?

Ida from Germany: I think I like our monthly trips the most like just even if it's just for a day for going skiing or cross country skiing, I always really enjoyed being altogether and just going on a fun little trips and yeah, or for example the Blue Lake trip I really enjoyed, we have like great snow and we're just outside a lot even though it got cold at night. But I really enjoyed that trip. We learned so much new stuff about fires and I would think so. I think that's my favorite part.
