Speaker: Ida from Germany, David Thompson Secondary School, Grade 10

Why did you choose Rocky Mountain International Student Program for your study abroad experience?

Ida from Germany: I've chosen the Rocky Mountain International Student Program because I love the mountains. You can do so many activities like skiing, snowboarding, hiking or mountain biking and that's really great. And it's so different to where I live in Germany because everything is so small what I like and the towns are small. There are not so many students in the school and this is, I enjoy this.

What do you like best about the community you live in?

Ida from Germany: About my community, I like the best that it's so small, you can reach everything with the bike or walk everywhere. And I also love the lake. You can ice skate and in the summer, swim in there. Or also walk on the lake in the winter. And we have this nice park where you can meet friends, play soccer, basketball, badminton, like whatever. And this is so cool, a nice spot to meet people.

What do you like best about your school?

Ida from Germany: About the school, I like the best that we have funny subjects, not only academic subjects. I have textiles and outdoor education. What is really fun And we make many trips with outdoor education and in Germany we just have academic subject and here the school is more fun and yeah, I like this.

What do you like best about your homestay?

Ida from Germany: The best about my home stay here, I like the fresh mountain air. It's really nice to go outside and breathe and it just feels nice and the sunsets are beautiful and the sunrises sometimes are stunning too. And I noticed that Canadians are way nicer than German people. What that was overwhelming at the beginning, But now it's nice that here are so many friendly people and I also really enjoy to spend time at the weekends at the ski resort skiing. And also I tried snowboarding. That was pretty fun.

What has been the best part of your experience with Rocky Mountain International Student Program?

Ida from Germany: The best experience with the Rocky Mountain International Student program is that we make many things together. We have many activities like cross country skiing or we were fat biking one time what was pretty fun and we had a Blue Lake camp, a camp on a small lake. But it was cool because we were together with Golden. So I got to meet an old friend from my hometown and we had a pretty fun time.
