Speaker: Dahlia Vertreese
Why are you a Reproductive Justice Voter?
Dahlia Vertreese: I am a reproductive justice voter because first and foremost, I am a black woman and our history with our reproductive rights goes a whole lot longer and farther than what we are struggling with today. Putting our laws on people's bodies. We've already been there and done that and it was objectively wrong. So I think that we should have reproductive justice because we are smart. We are capable of it and we are completely dedicated and owe it to our ancestors to make sure that America lives up to its promise that we are able and we have the right to opportunities as well.
How does Reproductive Justice show up in your life?
Dahlia Vertreese: Reproductive justice shows up in my life because I am a labor relations specialist for a union, as well as a mayor of a township. And I know how important it is for women to be able to justify the decisions that they're making in their own households. And also being able to protect the Children that they do have. Also having access to health care and making sure that their Children also have access to that health care. And it is a struggle. We have a major anti-vaxxer movement in this country and there was a complete disregard for the lack of medical care that black and brown communities were already suffering from. And they just built upon that to now attack women in our reproductive, right. So it shows up every single day in the community in which I live amongst my neighbors, amongst my children's friends. And I do believe that these women should be able to dictate how her family should proceed and the government should have a place
