How does Reproductive Justice show up in your life?

Lauren Dew: Reproductive justice shows up in my life because as a black woman, it is not safe to have Children anymore. It is harder to get good health care. When you're pregnant, I have a three year old daughter and I passed out while I was pregnant with her. This was right before COVID happened and I went to the emergency room and sat for four hours and was not seen before I left because no one came in to check on me, saw me admitted me anything. So I had to walk away because I was exhausted. I was hungry and I could have died. Anything could have been wrong with me and no one cared enough to even find out. And when I told my doctor what happened, she was appalled that a pregnant woman could pass out and it didn't matter to anyone in the emergency room at a hospital that is predominantly white and that type of care is not acceptable. If I had been of a different race, it probably wouldn't have happened like that, especially not in the nation's capital. And so that's not fair. Black women deserve the same care that women get. And we should be able to have Children and not have to wonder. Especially they consider me geriatric because of my age. I shouldn't have to wonder. Am I going to make it through this show? So that's how we put to essentially in my life. You see.
