Speaker: Leia Karczmer
Tell us about yourself! What is your name & where are you from? What organization are you connected with/what do you do?
Leia Karczmer : Hi everyone. I'm Leia, I'm 15, and a sophomore from New York City. Some things you might want to know about me are that my favorite color is blue, I really like sports, and I have two siblings. I'm also currently one of the Chief Operating Officers of an organization called Confident Healthy Women and at Confident Healthy Women, we work to eradicate period poverty. We do this by donating period and hygiene care packages to people in our New York City community, as well as educating people on period poverty and other issues surrounding menstruation on our social media. As one of the Chief Operating Officers at Confident Healthy Women, I oversee the day to day life of our organization, working in all fields such as donations, social media, and expansion. I'm so excited to have this opportunity to come to this Retreat and I can't wait to meet all of you.
Why are you excited for the Riley's Way Youth Leadership Retreat?
Leia Karczmer : I'm super excited about the Riley's Way Youth Leadership Retreat because I can't wait to meet other young leaders and advocates like myself and learn from them and their experiences. I'm also really excited to share my own. I think this Retreat will really foster a safe and powerful space for us to listen and amplify each other's voices.
What is your workshop about why should people attend?
Leia Karczmer : Okay, so for my workshop it will actually be run by me and one of my really good friends and Co-COO of Confident Healthy Women, Ariane, and together we came up with a truly amazing workshop that we think you all will really enjoy and learn a lot from. So, the title of our workshop is Sharing the Unknown: the Art of Amplifying Voices in the Digital Age. So, for this workshop we decided to focus on the impact of social media and advocacy throughout our own journey of Confident Healthy Women and we thought this is really applicable to the theme of the Retreat and we will also share with you some of our tips and tricks as well as some of our hardships while making a post and failing to reach out to people. Also, how social media can bring light to some of the unheard voices in our world and we have some really fun games planned that we hope you will all play and we may even get to you all may even get to design your own post or write a fake DM to someone that you might want to reach out to. We really hope you attend a workshop!
