Speaker: Pablo Gonzalez

Please give a brief introduction to yourself.

Pablo Gonzalez: Hey, I'm Pablo Gonzalez. I'm the chief evangelist at Vendaroo, and I've spent the last year interviewing the smartest people I know in property management to figure out how AI will affect property managers.

Tell us what you're an expert about!

Pablo Gonzalez: OK, so, AI, it's everywhere in the conversation right now. Property managers are all under pressure to figure out if it's worth their time, but most people don't know how to separate the old promises of automation inside of software from the new realities of AI and that's where the mistakes are made and opportunities are missed. That's why. I want to share with you the three lessons that really helped me totally get it, spot the difference onboard AI like a teammate and actually win with it. So lesson number one is kind of the difference between automation and what AI is, and it lies in the fact that automation only really works outbound. Most of the softwares that you and I have been used to are form-based. So, you can automate anything as long as the form is built correctly, but as the moment something like unpredictable comes in, uh, automation breaks. Uh, it can't handle nuance, right? So like if somebody calls um the HVAC, the air conditioner, it might not get it, or even if they start like a message with a hello, it doesn't know how to make that bridge of doing it. AI is different because it's built not on forms but on large language models. That's why you can ask something like ChatGBT anything in any way, and it's kind of basically gonna understand you while the old ways of searching for stuff, you were like conditioned to like speak in a certain way for it to get it and understand your thing, and that's the distinction. Inbound only works when the foundation is LLM based, and that is why a lot of people get this like me feeling from um features that are released in old systems, because when you combine um AI with a form, It often breaks, it just doesn't get it, right? The foundation wasn't designed for it unless it's designed on an LLM, but what's really exciting about Rentinene and why I'm such a big fan is because Rentinene has opened up all these APIs to make it really, really easy for AI native platforms built on LLMs to communicate with their systems as opposed to other platforms that just kind of like, keep it closed off and force you to wait for them to build it. So here's another thing. Difference between generative and agentic AI is a big deal, right? Generative is what most people have tried, and it's like a smart intern. It can drop a great email, it can pub, you know, polish a copy or like analyze the document. It's useful, but it's always gonna wait for you to take the next step. Agenic is different. It doesn't suggest it acts, right? So it won't just like write a maintenance email, it's gonna send it, it's gonna follow up, it can coordinate between residents and vendors, follow up to get the paperwork and make sure that you have everything and It's made to keep learning over time, to think more and more and act more and more like you, and that's the big shift. Generative gives you suggestions and A agentic gives you outcomes. So, lesson number 3 is how to win with agentic, cause once you understand that it gives you outcomes, then you need to treat it a little bit different. Winning with agentic doesn't happen by flipping a switch. It's more like onboarding a great new hire. If you think about when you bring in a new hire, they're gonna come in with their own experience. Agenic should do the same. But they don't know exactly how you want things done. So they're gonna hit the ground running and do things, and they're gonna reach roadblocks where they're not sure exactly how you like things, and then they're gonna escalate to you. Agentic will do the same. Normally, when we're using a software, we see the software not being able to finish something as a failure, but with Agenic, It's really an opportunity to get really, really clear on next steps and processes. And the beauty of it is that unlike a person, when you're like, oh yeah, you uh explain something, you might have to explain it again and again cause they just don't get it. With Agenic, you teach it once and it does it forever, right? So it's not plug and play, but it's teach and scale. So if you think about your first couple of weeks with Agenic, you wanna be like super on top of it, right? Like, like a over. Protective parent that is looking at everything that their kid is doing and nudging it one way or another, asking why it's doing that things we're finding its processes. If you do that for about 2 weeks, 2 to maybe 4 weeks, you're gonna get to like a point where you have a total mini me that can handle all the stuff that used to keep you bogged down and allow you to work on really important things, give you your time back and get you more in like strategic mode and being able to really, really move the needle. So that is. The new promise of agentic, it's elevating your job responsibilities because it's handling all the stuff that used to bog you down.
