Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy teaches children how to become aware of their thoughts, feelings and bodily sensations. Children learn age-appropriate practices like directing attention to each part of their body, breathing exercises, sensory awareness and meditation. Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy for children was developed initially for children ages 8 to 13 years old. It has been used with adolescents and it has been used with children with slightly younger than eight years old. Research has shown Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy for Children to be effective in three broad areas. The first is in anxiety management and reduction of anxiety. The second is in management of emotions or emotion self-regulation, we call it. And the third is an improvement in attention and reductions in attention related problems. MBCT-C is a child-friendly intervention and can be used in many different settings.
