Dr. Adriana Cuestas' new book encourages both literacy and family sharing of emotional experiences.
Adriana Cuestas, PsyD: In "Violet's First Big Goodbye," también disponible en español como, "Violeta y su Primer Gran Adios," Violet has to say goodbye to the only place that she's called home. This is a really hard process for her. In the book, she tries to make sense of her experience while she also supports her parents to slow down and connect with their own feelings. I co-wrote this book with my seven year old daughter, Luna Yanez-Cuestas. For me, this book is a way of supporting my own healing of my historical grief. For Luna, this was a way of coping with her big feelings as she said goodbye and also a way to honor what she had to leave behind. Nature. Relationships. Memories. Walls. For our relationship, this book was a way of feeling together, of feeling sadness and grief together, because as we say it in our book, "Saying goodbye is easier when we slow down and listen to our hearts, together." We hope this is a book that brings lots of togetherness for your goodbyes.
