Speaker: Jan Green, HomeSmart • Scottsdale, AZ

How many years have you been a GREEN designee, and what inspired you to earn the designation?

Jan Green: Okay. I've been an NAR Green Designee since May of 2014, but that's actually my second designation because I earned the Eco Broker designation in April of 2008 after attending the NAR convention in Vegas in 2007. So that's my second designation. I was really excited to earn the NAR Green Designation because I had already earned one designation. I wanted to expand my knowledge. It was working so well for me that and I was inspired. So I wanted to learn more.

Do you have any other designations or certifications? If so, which ones?

Jan Green: Besides my eco brokered designation and mine are Green designation. I also have a master certification for high performance homes that I earned last year through my teaching partner, and that's a private company learning a g l l. C.

How do you actively promote resource-efficient homes?

Jan Green: One of the ways that I love to promote resource efficient homes is by writing blogs and articles. I have my own blog on Active Rain and I have linkedin profile that I regularly share videos and information and connect with peers on linkedin. I have actually sold homes because of linkedin. I'm also on facebook instagram and I attend live events with US Green Building Council, the Green Chamber and Green Living magazine. Local events discussing sustainability. I've spoken at several events, conventions, US Green Building Council and I use all this information in the course I teach since 2011.

What is your favorite aspect of being part of the sustainable housing movement?

Jan Green: There's an excitement and enthusiasm with like minded professionals in group events that I attend. This also translates to the public. When I speak to them, when when we start talking about sustainability, I get excited and they see the excitement and enthusiasm, they know I'm authentic and I hope hopefully know what I'm talking about and what's really cool about this is I'm 100% repeat and referral. My clients call me on a regular basis asking about different aspects, and I write blogs on that, which I send to them in a newsletter. So then that gives them more opportunities to stir up conversation. It's exciting, and I love it.

How do you use the GREEN marketing materials or member benefits in your business?

Jan Green: One of the things I love using is the social media graphic that are put together as one of our benefits. It's amazing that I can share that on social media. And it really shares the message well, just one photo and a social media blog.
