What does your company specialize in?
Glenn Jones: At Phasecraft, we're working to develop the algorithms and the software that will enable us to bridge the gap between where we are on current NISQ devices and early quantum hardware to start solving and tackling some of the really big challenges and open up the promise of quantum computing, for example, material simulation, molecule simulation and hard optimization problems. And we do this by leveraging the expertise of our algorithm developers, condensed matter theorists, and application specialists that enable us to link together working on real hardware, the mathematical and theoretical developments and the end application.
Why did you choose to partner with QuEra?
Glenn Jones: So QuEra are world leaders in quantum hardware. And by combining our expertise, our world leading expertise in algorithmic and software development with their advances in the hardware, it seemed the perfect opportunity to come together and see how we can sort of push forward the field of quantum computing to useful simulation. Our first interaction has actually come through a Wellcome trust funded project in the area of health care. And this really allows us to showcase the advances that we've made in terms of molecular simulation and gives us opportunities to put our algorithms onto real hardware and hopefully make advances in the in the area of drug discovery and make some really important steps towards utility of quantum computing.
Together with QuEra, what benefits are you hoping to deliver to customers?
Glenn Jones: Well, it's early days in the field of quantum computing. But by bringing together algorithm development with the hardware side of things, this allows us to start testing applications to allow us to work through some of the problems and actually begin to start to make utility. So QuEra has some of the best qubits around. So this gives us the promise of actually running some real demonstrations at some point in the not too distant future. And this is going to give confidence to customers that yes, quantum computing can actually do something useful and allow people to understand and realize. What kind of problems can we hope to tackle in this area when we bring together the world leading expertise of the software and the hardware developers.
