Speaker: David Kovalev
What’s your favorite part about Pursue Cyber?
David Kovalev: My favorite part about pursue cyber has to be the team behind it. Dennis, Collier, and the rest of the team truly care about cybersecurity and make sure that we as the students are equipped not only to go out into the world of cybersecurity, but also understand the importance of cybersecurity controls and how to implement them.
What would you tell other students considering Pursue Cyber?
David Kovalev: There's no other opportunity that I know of that you can have a crash course on cybersecurity controls for absolutely free, and the fact that it is in person means that you can ask as many questions as you want as often as you want. This class is a great resource for information and connections that will propel your cybersecurity career.
What makes Pursue Cyber unique?
David Kovalev: Pursue cyber is unique because of the format of the classes. You will have an opportunity to learn about a certain control and then meet a professional who works alongside that control who will explain what they do and how they do it. Sometimes they even show you the behind the scenes of the tools they use, which allow you to see the controls that they that you learned in practice.
In what ways do you feel your participation in the cohort has or will benefit you professionally.
David Kovalev: This course has given me confidence in the most foundational part of cybersecurity, the 18I controls. This directly affected my confidence in interviews during my job hunt and helped me to land a job in cybersecurity before the class had even ended. These controls have also increased my personal cybersecurity hygiene, which I believe will help me as I further my career as a cybersecurity professional.
