Speaker: Hameem Muhammad, Punalur, India

How (and why) are you taking action on climate change solutions in, for, and with your community?

Hameem Muhammad: Hi. Uh I'm Hain. Uh I'm from India. Currently I am doing a fellowship in Environment. Uh I'm passionate about environmental sustainability. Uh One of my many main initiatives now involves building a school that integrates various aspects necessary for our ecology. Uh in my community. I am actively involved in climate change based solutions uh for several reasons. Firstly, I believe that education plays a crucial role in addressing environmental challenges uh by integrating sustainability into the curriculum of the school. Uh that I am building. I aim to instill environmental consciousness in future generations. Uh This will empower them to make informed decisions and take actions that positively impact our planet. Additionally, I am collaborating with local stakeholders to implement green infrastructure in our school. Uh Yeah, this includes uh features such as rainwater harvesting system, solar panels, green spaces with native plant species. Uh These initiatives not only reduce the carbon footprint of the school but also serve as an educational tool for students to learn about sustainable practices. Uh Firsthand. Yeah. Furthermore, I'm fostering partnership with community members to promote environmental stewardship beyond the school walls, through workshops, seminars, community cleanup events. I'm engaging people in conversations about climate change and encouraging them to adopt ecofriendly behaviors in their daily lives. My involvement in climate change solution is driven by a deep sense of responsibility towards our planet and future generation. Yeah. Yeah. So that's basically about me and what I'm looking forward.

Who or what inspires/inspired you to care about climate change and climate solutions?

Hameem Muhammad: Uh First of all, it is the organization that I'm working on that uh inspired me to learn more about climate change. Uh And to be a climate conscious person. Yeah. And I'm grateful for that. Second is the things I'm witnessing uh around my surroundings. So I'm living near a beach so that uh I can see uh the natives of the people, sorry, the natives of this place, how they are suffering. Yeah, they are living uh inside garbages and the climate change. So many time floods came in like, yeah, and sometimes cyclones are coming. So, yeah, they are actually the victims. Uh the, yeah, the close the more vulnerable victims to the climate change. So, yeah, that is the second inspiration. And third is the personal thing, the personal pain point happening to me and my, yeah, fellow beings, the global temperature is being rising up. So many face issues are facing by us like lack of water, uh lack of good food like yeah, organic, proper food. Um and sometimes floods happening. Uh sometimes heat waves happening. So, yeah. So if I tell in the order, it's first of all, the organization then uh yeah, the victims I had seen in the near living by, near the ocean and third is very much personal. Yeah, thank you.
