Speaker: Taonga Chirwa , Malawi
How (and why) are you taking action on climate change solutions in, for, and with your community?
Taonga Chirwa : My name is Tonga Chirwa. I'm from Malawi.
Taonga Chirwa : In my community, I'm engaged in tree planting. And I'm doing the work with the women and the youth. Uh, we know and everyone is aware about the how climate change has disturbed the human life, the animal life, and the planet. Uh, so tree planting project is quite a very important. In our community and even in the planet in the sense that trees, they help to remove the carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. The trees they hope to regulate temperature. The trees they hope to conserve the biodiversity and the trees also they hope to control soil erosion. But in my community, the trees are quite so important in the sense that the trees, they hope to end hunger. The trees also they help to end poverty. And the trees they're also used as the natural medicine. So I see the tree planting project quite very important in my country.
Who or what inspires/inspired you to care about climate change and climate solutions?
Taonga Chirwa : All right, thank you. I got inspire through Pachamama Alliance. Pachamama Alliance offers different courses. For example, Awakening the Dreamer, Climate Action, and so many. And now I started taking the, Awakening the Dreamer, which actually, uh, gave me different resources, equipped me and it transformed me. After getting all the different resources from Pachamama. Actually, I got enough courage and really motivated me to start a tree writing project in my community. And forming or collaborations with different friends, the knowledge and experience which he had actually Li also so built. A chapter in me. That's why I started the climate change action. Climate change action is really quite vital because the planet really needs us to take action. The global warming needs us to take action. The hunger, floods whatsoever. Really needs us to take action. Thank you.
