Speaker: Daniel Hill, Creator, OpenDoorClimate
Daniel Hill: impact because. Each one of those messages is a real person that is, is doing something they otherwise weren't and creating this ripple effect for for other people that that want to do the same.
How (and why) are you taking action on climate change solutions in, for, and with your community?
Daniel Hill: We need more people using their job to fight climate change. And the crazy thing is there's millions of people that already want to do that. The problem is they're they're stuck. They don't know how to actually make that a reality or to take that personal interest and and make it a career. And one of the biggest issues that people face is they just don't have the network of people, they don't have those connections that are so critical to learning about a new industry or to getting a job really. And that's what I'm trying to fix. I started Open door climate as a way to make climate career networking radically more human and in turn make climate careers more accessible to everyone. We are a global community of climate professionals that have open door policies for anyone to reach out to talk to us, to ask us questions as simple as what do you do on a daily basis or how did you get to where you are? All with the goal to get more people into these careers. Uh, and we were all former climate career seekers ourselves, and now we're just trying to pay it forward.
Describe a moment when you felt the real-world impact of your work in climate solutions.
Daniel Hill: For me, the impact is, is really not numbers. It's, it's really personal messages that I'll receive from people saying like, I finally got a climate job or I'm finally using my job to, to work on climate and it's because this one conversation I had that led to this, that led to that and just unlocked something and then those very same people turning around and paying it forward and saying, and now I'm gonna make myself available to to others trying to get into this field. That's that's when it feels like something's really happening and and there's real impact because. Each one of those messages is a real person that is, is doing something they otherwise weren't and creating this ripple effect for for other people that that want to do the same.
Who or what inspires/inspired you to care about climate change and climate solutions?
Daniel Hill: I work on climate change because of fear and anxiety, honestly, um. It is the the greatest threat to humanity and. My brain's just too anxious to to not spend time trying to work on that at least, um. And I wish it was a better reason, but. I'm, I'm just too afraid of what, what's to come and what's gonna happen to my kids and their kids, uh, to, to not work on it.
