Speaker: Clovis Peyrelongue, France
How (and why) are you taking action on climate change solutions in, for, and with your community?
Clovis Peyrelongue: Hello everyone, I'm Clovis. I'm 17 and I'm a student in high school in France. I'm here to tell you about my story that's only just um starting, um, but I think I've always been um aware of climate issues through trips at first that led me to discover new populations, new cultures and countries that might uh face uh climate issues. And also through scouts that led me to be way more in touch with nature that I would have been um without it. And um, Yeah, therefore, I think it kind of grew as a necessity for me to uh make sure I use my voice to try and bring awareness and and and climate solutions, uh, to my city and my high school. Uh, so therefore, this year I'm trying to get involved as an eco delegate. Um, so it's a fancy word uh to say that I'm supposed to bring awareness uh to my uh classmates this year. I'm trying to take it a bit further than that. Uh, through conferences, open to every pupil, um, in the high school and also through actual climate solutions for the high school. Uh, so lately we switch, uh, to renewable energy with, uh, solar panels installed on our roofs. Uh, it's really interesting and motivating work, uh, that's been done here, but it's only just, uh, the beginning and I think I'll try to make sure that all of this process carries on when I, uh, will be done with high school. But yeah, I think, as I said, such a, Uh, a necessity that everyone is getting involved if uh if uh they can, uh, to try and bring as many people in, uh, that cause that is so important. Uh, so yeah, really glad that um such amazing work is done by Project right down and uh happy if I can be a part of it.
Who or what inspires/inspired you to care about climate change and climate solutions?
Clovis Peyrelongue: So I think what really inspired me to care about climate change was that first trips to foreign countries that really showed me how um different populations and countries uh might live with climate change. And therefore, just by caring about these people and their lives, I've always um wanted to help them, and therefore I've learned uh through the the last years that the best thing I could do was to try and change things uh with climate solutions in my own environment. Um, so therefore that's what I'm trying to do. Um, also through the, the scouts movement, uh, which has led me to, to grow really aware that, um, climate change is impacting all of us really, um, because all of my years there have been led by climate and environmental projects, whether it was to clean up uh environments. Or um help communities are facing different uh climate issues uh like um forest fires, for example. And um yeah, I think also what led me to um to to be inspired about climate solutions and and climate change, uh. Is, um, all of the books and, and podcasts I've, I've listened to and read, um, uh, from adventurers and, and explorers, um, that are really seeing, uh, with their own eyes, uh, like Mike Warren, for example, um. How the the climate change is impacting our planet. And I think because I've always loved nature and and love all of that adventurous side I've I've really grown away with that.
